DAVID P. STEPHENS
ARTIST BIO
A native of Cape Breton Island, I have maintained an art practice since 1984 and in 1988 was a founding member of the world renowned Nova Scotia Folk Art Festival.
Since 2013, I have been actively engaged in an ongoing project, “Carmageddon: The Death of the Automobile”, with the assistance of Arts Nova Scotia Creation Grants (2013 and 2016).
I am also an active member of Ten-645, a Cape Breton-based collective of ten artists all of whom recently engaged in a project with Brush Tu Art, a collective from Nairobi, Kenya, with an exhibit held in September 2019 at the Cape Breton Centre for Craft and Design.
In addition to my studio practice, I also write Book Reviews for the scholarly journal, Material Culture Review through Cape Breton University and I am a contributing artist in the Cape Breton Cancer Centre’s Art of Living Program and Art of Awareness Program.
